What Not to Wear to A Wedding

A wedding guest outfit can make or break your look; that’s why you have to put extra effort to dress according to the event. Neither more nor less- just perfect! And worse, wearing an awkward dress, color, or accessories can make you feel embarrassed.

I know many thoughts confuse you about what not to wear to a wedding, but not to worry. I am going to share with you highly fashionable wedding makeover tips to avoid fashion mishaps as a guest. So, stick around.

What Not to Wear to A Wedding

Say No to White

Wearing white as a guest at a wedding is a faux pas unless you are a bride yourself. Always remember it is a bride and a groom’s big day, not yours. So let them get the most attention, right?

Avoid wearing shades like plain white, champagne, and ivory if the bride is wearing white. But if white is your go-to look, consider wearing light pastel shades so you will create more contrast with the bride’s dress.

A No-no to Black

I know these days wearing black at weddings is becoming a trend. But still many people may not like it if you wear black to their wedding as they think black is a color to wear on funeral.

But if you love wearing black, then another option is to go for darker shades like ink blue, deep brown or burgundy and pair it with elegant black jewelry. It will look more stylish and classier.

Do Not Wear Revealing Dresses

Skip skimpy outfits and wear a dress that is a little more on the conservatory side. I personally recommend you don’t wear anything that shows too much of your skin. As you are going to a wedding not a nightclub so you must wear what makes more sense.

Avoid wearing revealing dresses like short skirts, backless dresses, plunging necklines, and form-fitting gowns as such dresses may divert the guests’ attention towards you instead of the bride.

Animal Prints Outfits to A wedding- Seriously?

I know many people take weddings as an opportunity to transform their look or play with patterns and colors or mix and match the pieces. But, if your fashion sense is not good, it will only worsen your look.

Try wearing a dress having simple designs like polka dots or subtle stripes for a more stylish look instead of animal prints that look so gaudy.

Stay Away from Wearing Anything Casual

I know some people like me feel more comfortable in their PJs and slippers all day long. But if you think of wearing those casual trousers or t-shirts at a wedding, it’s a bad idea.

Weddings are the events where you get the chance to dress yourself up and wear something formal instead of showing up in slippers and jeans. So if you love casuals, try wearing something minimal like jumpsuits that are super casual and comfortable but still making a perfect choice for formal occasions.

Avoid Clothes with Holes, Rips or Tears

This category of clothes definitely has no place for any wedding event. Cocktail dresses are very tacky and look inappropriate. Therefore, try not to wear ripped jeans or clothes with holes and cuts at a wedding to show a good gesture towards the groom and bride.

Skip Neon Colors

Neon shades are definitely not suitable to wear at a wedding as these blazing colors will make you the center of attention instead of the bride and groom. Definitely, not cool!

Avoid Floor Length Dresses

Wedding is a big day for every woman and come only once in their lifetime. Therefore, every girl tries to dress as beautifully as she can and wants to look different from all the other girls at the event.

So if it’s always best to not wear floor-length dresses like lavish ball gowns, train dresses or anything similar to the bridal dress. Instead go for a less flowy dress and make sure the dress had less embroidery as well.

Jeans Or Denims- Definitely not!

Are you thinking of wearing denim or jeans at your friend’s wedding? Not a good idea! You may have a perfect pair of jeans but that does not mean you wear them to an upcoming wedding.

Weddings are the events to wear dainty jewelry pieces and formal clothes. It’s better to be rightly dressed than underdressed.

Avoid Sparkly Dresses

Do not wear sequins or sparkly dresses to outclass your look at someone else wedding. You don’t want people to congratulate you or come to you asking about the groom instead of the actual bride.

I know every girl likes a little bit of glitz and sparkle, but too flashy outfits will upstage the bride. So, save your sparkly dress for some other day and try to dress up a little less sparkly.

No Bold Makeup

Remember, you are invited to someone else’s wedding so you don’t want to overdo your makeup to the point that you look upstage like a bride.

Instead, go for a more subtle wedding guest look. Go for a nude-tone makeup look and us any soft color gloss on your lips to look more beautiful and classier while not outdoing the bride.

Do not Wear Statement Pieces

When attending a wedding as a guest, avoid wearing chunky bracelets and jewelry that attracts other attention towards you instead of the bride. As a wedding guest, stick to small studs and tiny pendants and let the bride wear the classic pieces and shine on her big day.

Skip Sheer Material

Don’t mistake wearing a see-through outfit like dress made of sheer fabric. It looks inappropriate and will make the people strangle stare at you. It’s best to try on your dress a few days before the wedding and check it in different lights to ensure nothing inside shows through.

That’s All

By now, you must have figured out what to wear and what not to wear to a wedding. Try to avoid wearing clothes, shoes, and accessories that look too casual, loud, revealing, and showy.

And as a guest, try wearing something decent yet classy to a wedding that does not steal the bride or groom spotlight.
