Just as the name suggests, this is a links golf course that is truly one of the best of the best in the entire world. It has been rated most recently in the top 20 courses in all of South Africa. What also makes this course special is that it is a partner with two other courses, allowing you to play whichever one you want depending on the day. Gary Player designed all of the courses here, so you know that you are in good hands. This beautiful resort is also tucked into the Outeniqua mountains giving it a stunning view while playing the game. Its resort has so much to offer for anyone who stays here.
Even though the report has a lot to offer there are so many things to do when leaving the resort. Some of these things include but are not limited to horseback riding, picnics, mountain biking, tennis, and so much more. Not only do they have a lot to offer but it is in beautiful South Africa. The courses are of course challenging but again, who doesn’t love a good challenge while playing golf? It is a very enjoyable time especially with the mountains next to the course.
Leopard Creek Country Club
From the golf course to the resort, everything about Leopard Creek Country Club screams outstanding. It takes you away from the hustle and bustle of South Africa and secludes you out in the woods where you feel like you are in a world of your own. It is surrounded by a river that gives the course its irrigation and if you are lucky sometimes you can actually see some unique wildlife. After your stay move on over to the clubhouse and resort and you will not be disappointed either. The entire country club is one of the best in South Africa and for good reason.
This course is in the top 5 because it just has so much to offer. The river that snakes through the course gives every golfer who golfs here a great challenge. Many people love this course because of how challenging it can get at times and just how beautiful the scenery is while playing. While playing here, you can have some friendly furry friends visit you on the course. You never really know what to expect on this course because anything can happen at any time. This is the perfect course for just you or even some family members to have a great time and relax.
Gary Player Country Club Sun City
Again Gary Player has designed many golf courses in South Africa, but this one is really top notch. You can follow in the footsteps of many professional golfers that have walked these grounds as part of the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge on the European Tour. Besides the fact that it is an amazing 72 hole golf course, you can also walk along the 5 kilometer trail to get a nice view of the course. Besides this course, there are over 95 courses spread throughout South Africa. If you are visiting here you have such a wide variety of which one you want to go to. Lots of its fame comes from the famous Million Dollar Challenge that is held every December. The best of the best players compete in this challenge to win a huge prize of one million dollars.
The Sun City course is also home to the Nedbank Golf Challenge. This challenge offers the largest first prize of any tournament in the world which is a huge deal and is taken very seriously in South Africa. Many people can also gather around to watch the challenge take place just like any other tournament. It can be very fun for people to watch this and especially see who would win the first prize.
Arabella Golf Club
Arabella Golf Club is just as nice as the rest of the golf courses on our list, but it is actually the cheapest option too. This makes it perfect for those golfers that are looking to stay on a budget, but also play one of the best courses around. As you can see from the picture, it is right on the water which gives it a Pebble Beach like look to it. Although nothing can beat that experience, this is certainly a good second. The course also has a fully stocked pro shop, chipping green, putting green and so much more.
The course has been consistently ranked in the top 10 golf courses in South Africa, which means it stays at the top throughout the many years of it being open. As stated above, this is a cheaper option for the golfers who still want to get the full experience of a South African golf course which is still really nice. The 8th hole is also known as one of the most beautiful par 5’s in South Africa.
Glendower Golf Club
Last but not least, we have Glendower Golf Club yet another one of our personal favorites. This course is special in our hearts, because it gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to scenery. The course is the perfect hint of water while also keeping you surrounded by trees at all times. Now you may want to expect these features to add to your score a little bit, but it will make for a fun time nonetheless.
Not only has this course been home to the South African Open for eight competitions but it has been rebuilt to USGA standard. It has a lot of history to it as well with the fact that ten businessman got together to form the idea and now we have a beautiful course known as Glendower Golf Club.
