The Perfect Seven-Day Japan Itinerary Tokyo-Mt. Fuji

Japan is one of the top destinations for travelers interested in exploring a culture and country that is rich with historical sites, natural wonders and plenty of exciting things to do for new and returning travelers. The following is the perfect seven-day Japan itinerary that will have you looking back on your trip for years to come.

 

Day One

 

Arrive in Tokyo early and check in as soon as possible. Budget friendly options include the Shinjuku Granbell Hotel and InterContinental Tokyo Bay. Then head out to the popular Shibuya District to take in the many sights and sounds of the city, such as the popular Hachiko dog statue.

 

Day Two

 

Time to take in some royal history! Visit the Imperial Palace and Gardens, which are partially open to the public. You can go on your own or book a guided tour. The surrounding neighbourhood features modern architecture and plenty of food options. 

 

Day Three

 

It’s time to visit the most vibrant place in Tokyo: Harajuku, famously known as being the center of Japan’s countercultures. You can find plenty of unique fashion shops, restaurants and other places to grab unique items such as the Totti Candy Factory.

 

Day Four

 

Mt. Fuji time! You can hike on trails surrounding the mountain or book a boat trip for some unique views of Mt. Fuji from the water. If you’re looking for a longer hike, check out the Aokigohara Forest. But stay on the trails!

 

Day Five

 

Immerse yourself in local culture by heading to the Tsukiji Fish market; get there early if you want to see the morning auctions. After eating breakfast, hop over to the Meiji-jingu shrine to watch the ceremonies. 

 

Day Six

 

You’ll want to set aside an entire day to explore nearby Kyoto. Kyoto is one of the most historic cities in Japan, with many temples, shrines and other buildings that date back centuries. Take in the popular Yasaka Shrine, stroll in Maruyama Park and remember to take photos.


Day Seven

 

For your final day, plan on taking in lots of local areas. Head to Kappabashi Street, a popular street that is well-known for offering interesting food options along with unique dishes; then head to Oedo Antique Market for the largest outdoor antique market in Japan, where you can find souvenirs that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Finish off your trip with a local restaurant and then head home with great memories!
