Millions of visitors every year travel to Machu Picchu and this five-day itinerary is perfect for both first-time and seasoned visitors.
Day One
You’ll want to stay in the nearby city of Cusco, where you’ll have easy access to Machu Picchu and other amazing sights. Opt for a stay at hotels like Palacio del Inka, a modestly priced luxury hotel; or Hilton Garden Inn Cusco, for something more simple. On day One, check in, get familiar with your surroundings and take in some local fare.
Day Two
Head out to the Sacred Valley where you can view archaeological wonders such as the small village of Pisac and the fortress of Ollantaytambo. Afterwards, you can head back to Cusco or book a one-night hotel room in nearby Aguas Calientes.
Day THree
Time for Machu Picchu! You will have to have a guide to enter this site, so either book one through a tour or hide a guide at the site itself. It’s best to go with companies that have great reviews so you don’t get scammed. Spend the day exploring this archaeological wonder and then head back to the city.
Day Four
Head out to Maras and nearby Moray, where you can view the unique terraces with agricultural farming that was believed to have been developed by Incas long ago.
Day Five
Spend your day in Cusco and enjoy the city. Shop for souvenirs and opt for some of the best food in the city, like the popular La Huerta del Tata or the Morena Peruvian Kitchen. Then head on home with the memories you’ve made of this wonderful city and country.
