Oakhurst Golf Course 

Located in Clayton, California, the Oakhurst Golf Course has many beautiful views because it is located within the valley with the mountain views behind the course. With lots of obstacles on the course Oakhurst has many things to offer like water hazards and it has been established for many years. It is a beautiful course to play a round of golf and has lots of history behind it. It can offer many other things like having your wedding at the club and so on. Even though it is one of the oldest in the USA it does not look its age.  

 

Dorset Field Club 

Here at the Dorset Field Club, they are devoted to making the best golfers succeed at this course. While at the course, PGA professionals will design a program to help you with your golf game. There are many clinics at this course that they put on weekly to make the players better. The staff definitely goes the extra mile at this course to make sure you are getting the correct instruction and practice to do good. They want to ensure that you are not learning something wrong or have a wrong swing when going onto the course, the Dorset Field Club is the place to be.

 

Foxburg Country Club

The Foxburg Country Club in Pennsylvania is nothing short of spectacular. Even though the course is shorter than others it is still very challenging. This is a great place to golf by yourself, with friends, or even during an outing. It also houses the American Golf Hall of Fame on the second floor of the clubhouse. If you do not want to take the day to golf a round you can always stop by the Golf Hall of Fame to look around. The hall features many different golf clubs and basically the whole history of golf and how it came about.

 

Quogue Field Club

Quogue Field Club is a great place to go when you need some alone time. The course is shorter but it is basically flat when looking at the bigger picture. There are some sand bunkers and water hazards placed on the course where you would least expect them. And of course with the club being right on the ocean you can and most likely will experience some wind coming off of the water. Conditions can change very quickly and they can be drastic so it is important to be very careful when playing next to a body of water especially the ocean.

 

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club was one of the five founding member clubs in the USGA. Although the course has been revised about four times since the original, it still stands as authentic as the first time around. The most major restoration of the course took place in 2016 because they wanted to completely refresh the course. It has held many championships in the past and still has more to come in the future. In fact, the next major tournament being held here will be the 2026 U.S. Open Championship. This will bring back the cassy course in a major tournament and even give it more history than it already has.

 

Downers Grove Golf Club 

Downers Grove Golf Club is known as America’s first ever 18 hole golf course. They offer a golf academy and instruction for those who want to take lessons and learn more about golf. This is also great if you are just starting to play golf because they can give you lots of valuable information that you will take with you for the rest of your golf career. It also has a driving range, chipping area, and a sand dune area to practice your skills before playing on the course. There are also heaters within the stations so you can practice on rainy and cold days.



The Country Club 

The Country Club located in Massachusetts is a very important part of history for golfing, because it was one of the five charter clubs that founded the USGA. Currently the club has around 1300 members and brings in about $18 million when speaking about their income. The original club way back in the day was mainly focused on horseback riding and outdoor activities. As golf became more popular there was a debate about if they wanted to build a course there. They wanted to focus on outdoor activities and horseback riding, not necessarily golf. But now it is known as one of the oldest golf courses in The United States. 

 

Newport Country Club 

The Newport Country Club located in Newport Rhode Island is one of the top courses in The United States and is also one of the five founding courses of the USGA. There have been major modifications to the course since it was first built but in 1897 the course added another 9 goles making it an 18 hole course. They have since hosted many tournaments and events here because of how popular the course is. Many championships have been won here by lots of famous golfers and the memories are still fresh.

 

Chicago Golf Club

Chicago Golf Club is the oldest golf course in North America. It is also one of the five founding golf courses of the USGA. It does have the Chicago feel while playing at the course which is everything you can ask for. It has been described as a turn-of-the-century golf course because of its signature feeling that cannot be found at other golf courses. There is so much history here because again, it is the oldest golf course in North America.

 

Saint Andrews Golf Club

Saint Andrews Golf Club has been redesigned a couple of times but all are renowned designers who will make the course perfect. Yes, it has been redone multiple times but lots of the original holes still stay in place. They wanted to make the course a bit more clean and reorganize a couple of the holes. Of course the course is still beautiful as always but it is even more perfect because of all the top notch designers redesigning it.

 

All these courses listed are the oldest golf courses in The United States. It is important when golfing at these courses that you remember the history that happened on them before they were golf courses.
