Do Beauty Bloggers Make Money?

Over the years, blogging has always been touted as one of the best ways to make money online. And while that can be true, it’s obvious that not every blog is going to make millions. In fact, only a few do, but there are tons of successful blogs where people make a living just by posting great content. That does bring the question, how do beauty bloggers fare into this puzzle? Is beauty blogging a good way to make money, or is it more of a way to inspire and help people?

Based on my experience, I will say it’s a little bit of both. In general, beauty is one of those niches that have a lot of searches online and that’s for a very good reason. People want to improve their looks, learn from other person’s mistakes and use the right products that enhance their skin’s longevity and health. Yet at the same time, if you have such a blog and people enjoy your content, it’s possible to monetize it in many ways, and even earn a good amount to sustain your living expenses.

How much do beauty bloggers earn?

The average earning a year for beauty bloggers located in the US is around $43k. However, some blogs earn well into 6 figures, while others will just earn 1k a month. So the earnings will vary drastically, depending on the blog. We also have to realize that there are general beauty blogs, some even have lifestyle and travels, others are specific to makeup and other subniches. That means earnings will depend on that too, which is something you have to think about.

Is it possible to earn $10k a month from a beauty blog? Yes, but it will take a lot of time and effort to reach that point. You need to build trust, establish an audience and also stay consistent. That might not be as simple as you expect. But as always, hard work will pay off. So if you stick with it, the return can be exceptional. Avoid any rush though, and learn how to monetize your blog adequately for the best results and income.

Best methods you can use to monetize your beauty blog

Affiliate marketing

The idea behind affiliate marketing is that you are promoting someone else’s product, trying to generate a sale. You add links to that product’s page and the company offering that product will know which clients come from you via the affiliate code. If someone purchases the product, you will receive an affiliate commission.

Of course, your focus is to try and generate as many sales as possible. In general, affiliate marketing will get you paid if you generate sales. However, there are companies that pay for leads too, so you don’t always have to make people buy a product, which is a great thing.

Commissions will also vary, some companies will pay you significantly more when compared to others. That’s why you want to study the payment systems, figure out the commission rates and see which products are the best ones to promote.

Ads

These days, a lot of people have ad blockers, so ads are not as good of an income generator as they once were. However, ads can be a good source of income if you combine them with other ideas. In the case of ads, you don’t want to add too many, and ensure that they fit your blog’s style adequately.

While some people dismiss ads and try to find other monetization ideas, I think ads are being slept on. Yes, adblockers are a problem, but not everyone has them. So it’s definitely a good monetization option, but make it tasteful and don’t include tons of ads per page. That will just drive people away.

Direct advertisement

Once your blog gets traction, it will start getting attention from companies. There will be companies that will contact you directly to advertise their product. They will most likely offer you a bulk amount to promote their products. But there are also companies that will pay a smaller sum upfront, and offer you an affiliate deal as well.

It’s a good idea to have sponsors, because they can end up boosting your revenue. In fact, some of the top blogs in the beauty world rely on sponsors and those can end up earning a lot of money. I say to never dismiss any sponsorship opportunity, unless you don’t like the products or services they provide.

Selling your own digital products

Since we are in the beauty niche, there are plenty of digital products you can sell. You can start creating and selling all kinds of beauty charts and infographics or visuals that you can sell in the PDF format. Or you can have a small ebook guide that’s very affordable and easy to sell. It always comes down to experimenting and figuring out what works, what digital products people want to buy, and which ones don’t sell. However, you’ll notice that people will purchase great digital products, so always focus on quality and helping people.

Online courses

Speaking of that, you can start an online course on Udemy and other course sites, but promote it on your blog. It’s a good source of income, and it will bring more eyes towards your course. When it comes to the type of course you can start creating, it can be a tutorial at first. Then you can go into more in-depth ideas depending on what knowledge you have. Remember, online courses are very sought after these days, so it makes sense to check them out for yourself and see if you like them.

Dropshipping

You can also have a store section where you sell people various products from wholesalers. If someone buys a product from you, then you link the sale to the wholesaler and they will handle the entire shipping process. While it might not always be a top option, it does give you yet another way to generate revenue. Alternatively, you can avoid dropshipping entirely and just focus on creating your own products, then sell and ship them yourself.

Offer a paid membership

You will notice that some blogs offer a paid membership and they do a very good job at supplementing your income. For example, you can have a set of articles for every visitor, and a locked section with more, in-depth articles as well. It’s a great idea to diversify your income, and the best part is that some people are willing to offer support in the form of a paid membership. So it’s the best of both worlds, and it can generate good income too.

I think that beauty bloggers can make a good amount of money, it always comes down to how you are implementing those ideas, but also how up to date you are with monetization options. At the end of the day, it’s possible to earn well into 5 figures every year if you have a beauty blog. However, keep in mind that it requires dedication, consistency and great value for your audience. Plus, listening to your audience and their feedback is a crucial part of the process, and that’s why you have to always be there for them with excellent, outstanding content they enjoy!
