20 km above the northern tip of Hokkaido, Mount Rishiri is located. If you are visiting the volcano, you can only climb halfway, because the hike takes a whole day.
The last eruption of Mount Meakan occurred in 2006. The 1499 meters height Mount Meakan is still an active volcano in Japan, having one of the best landscapes and structures of all the volcanoes in Japan.
In the last few years, Mount Meakan has erupted several times.
Mount Daisetsuzan burst out in 1739. The Daisetsuzan national park is known to be one of the best-hiking destinations in Japan.
If you travel south of Mount Daisetsuzan, you can still see the Daisetsuzan National Park.
Mount Tarumae’s last eruption occurred in 1981.
Located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park beside Lake Shikotsuko, Mount Tarumae is 1841 meters high.
If you are visiting the Tarumae volcano, you can see hikers reach the summit in an hour.

And also, you can travel around the crater in less than two hours, but the visitors are not allowed to visit the interior of the crater.

You can visit the path, but it is ruined because of the eruption. The Usuzan Ropeway can give you a closer view of the volcano.
Mount Zao last erupted in 1940. Mount Zao is famous for its crater. During winter, Mount Zao is the best choice for sightseeing.
Frozen trees also called ice monsters are also popular. Unfortunately, you cannot visit the crater, since it is not given access to the public.
In 1977, Azuma Mountains last erupted. The height of the mountain is 1949 meters.

The last eruption of Mount Mihara was in 1990.
Mount Mihara is an active volcano which is located on the island of Izu Oshima, and is the largest that has seen explosive eruptions. It is possible to hike up to the summit of Mount Mihara and walk around its crater relatively easily.

Kuju Mountain’s last eruption was in 1996.
The mountain is a range of many volcanic peaks in the Aso-Kuju National Park.
They include the Nakadake peak which is the highest point spot on the island.
The last eruption of Mount Kirishima was in 2018.
It is one of the active volcanoes in Japan.
The place is also popular for its hiking spots. The volcanic structure and view are quite impressive!
