Though the world is blooming with positivity and springs on one side, another side is full of flames and disasters!
Volcano is one such disaster that will create a long-term impact in earth. Volcanoes may be dormant or active. If it’s dormant, there is no problem. But if the volcano is active, there may be some serious damage!
There are more than 1500 active volcanoes in the whole world. Ash, dust, lava are a routine part of the volcanoes. But, they become serious when exploded.
Volcanoes always are a fascinating subject when it comes to ecologists and geographers. The history of volcanoes and their stunning structures provide a real curriculum for geology for students.
Some schools even take students on a volcano trip to gain knowledge.
Let Us See Some Of The Most Dangerous Volcanoes In The World:
- Tambora:
On April 10, 1815, the Tambora volcano is said to produce the largest eruption in history.
During the past 10,000 years, Tambora produced the largest eruption known on the planet. It was noted that the volcano erupted more than 50 cubic kilometers of magma. And also the volcano collapsed to form a caldera.
The caldera was a 6 km wide and 120-meter deep one. Also, the eruption ended up creating a worse impact. Global climatic changes and killing 100000 people were under them.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, the minor caldera existed.
The Tambora strato-volcano was a 60-kilometer wide volcano. Initially, the volcano was just a 4000-meter elevation. Later, after the explosion, the volcano grew. 10000 years ago lava filled the caldera.
An eruption took place in 1815 which emptied 50-150 cubic km of magma. The eruption reached more than 40-50 km altitude. And it ejected an enormous amount of ash and aerosols into the air (stratosphere)
Thick pumice deposits covered the villages. “Pompeii of Indonesia” was named after the village after the recent excavation.
- The Yellowstone Super Volcano:
The yellow stone park sits near the Yellow Stone Super Volcano. The eruption of the volcano has spitted its lava to the park also. The recent explosion occurred 640,000 years ago.
Last year, a geologist from the University of Silesia in Poland stated that the volcano could destroy a major part of the U.S and could kill five billion people all around the world.
The volcano is not just active, but super active. It may blow out anytime, any day!
- Mount St. Helens in Washington:
In 2008, the volcano experienced a great explosion. From Mount St. Helens in Washington became popular.
The series of volcanic eruptions led to massive earthquakes which lasted for several months.
And also, the largest slide over in history happened here.
After the explosion, the ash and debris were found in the atmosphere in eleven American states and two Canadian states.
Now, Mount St. Helens is active and it is topped with a large amount of hot lava and a large lacier too.
- Mount Kilauea in Hawaii:
One of the most active volcanoes is the Kilauea volcano. It is a home for many massive eruptions.
They are generally non-explosive but contain a large amount of active and fierce lava in them. The hot lava sometimes flows to the Caldera.
The famous Kilauea eruption occurred in 1955, which was followed by many deadly earthquakes and lava flow.
The lava flow continued for more than 88 days and it affected 15 km sq. it almost affected the agricultural field completely.
Similar to that, another eruption occurred in 1975 which led the root cause to a tsunami.
- Mayon Volcano in the Philippines:
30 eruptions are huge, right?
The Mayon volcano has been recorded to explode 30 times. This resulted in 79 deaths during a specific year. Since 2000, 5 eruptions have happened back to back. Thus, the evacuation of thousands of people occurred.
Another specialty of the Mayon volcano is its symmetrical shape. ‘The world’s most perfect volcanic cone’ was entitled to the Mayon volcano.
Unfortunately, after a massive typhoon in 2006, the shape of the volcano kind of changed due to mudslides and floods. This killed thousands of people.
- Redoubt Volcano in Alaska:
Amongst the most dangerous 51 volcanoes, Alaska’s volcanoes are top in the line.
10,000ft above sea level, stands the Redoubt volcano in Alaska.
Between the years 1989 and 1990, a deadly eruption disrupted air traffic. This made history one of the expensive eruptions in U.S history.
The volcano is topped and covered with ice glaciers; still, the place has been warned that another lava flow or any hot gases occurring there would result in another eruption.
- Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines:
Pinatubo is located in the Zambales Mountains. The ever-furious volcano had its recent eruption in 1991. It was noted to be the second-largest volcanic eruption in the world. The impact was affected throughout the world. The global temperature dropped to 0.5 degrees and a sulfuric acid layer was formed later.
Chilling, isn’t it?
Even before the eruption of Pinatubo, it was known that the surface of the volcano was heavily eroded.
- Mount Agung in Bali:
One of the worse and scary eruptions that took place in history was Mount Agung’s eruption. It happened in the year 1963, and it killed more than 1500 people and damaged livelihood.
The recent eruption took place in the year 2009. In September 2017, the region experienced 844 earthquakes.
It sounds disastrous…right?
And also, do you know that the region suffered from 300-400 earthquakes in a single day?
More than 122000 people migrated from this place until another explosion spewed lava and rocks over a 3km distance.
- Mount Fuji in Japan:
Japan is always known for disasters and eruptions. The dormant volcano began to become an active one after the last eruption in 1707. Fuji is always known as an active one by geologists after the 2011 earthquake- which is believed to have caused the large eruption.
The damage that occurred was quite dangerous and huge, thus resulting in one of the dangerous volcanoes.
- Popocatépetl in Mexico:
Popocatépetl means ‘smoking mountain’. As the name says, the volcano has been going through many more eruptions constantly. Since 2004, the volcano has been known as the second most active volcano in Mexico.
The volcano is one of the explosive ones in the world.
Recently, in 2019, the volcano exploded 215 times on the same night, releasing large ash, and smoke into the air.
