Alaska is a nature-lover’s dream; with absolutely breathtaking sites and all sorts of terrain to explore, a visit to Alaska is one you will remember forever. The following is the best five-day Alaska itinerary for visiting this fantastic state.
Day One
Arrive in Alaska’s biggest city, Anchorage, and check into your hotel. Afterward, head out to the popular Anchorage Museum, which features unique art exhibitions dedicated to Alaska’s indigenous past. If you get thirsty, head to one of Alaska’s popular pubs and breweries where you can try the local fare.
Day Two
Time to head to Denali using the Alaska Railroad train; once you arrive, check into your hotel. Note: Let your hotel know that you’ll be coming into Denali by train and they can help arrange for transportation from the train station to your hotel. Grab something to eat at the local restaurant and explore the area.
Day Three
Time to explore Denali National Park! The best way to explore this park is to take a themed tour. Tours are typically grouped according to length; the Denali Natural History Tour is about 5 hours whereas the Tundra Wilderness Tour is 7 to 8 hours total. Make sure to wear comfortable gear and stay with the group.
Day Four
Hop aboard the Alaska Railroad and make your way to Fairbanks. The train doesn’t leave until the late afternoon, so feel free to spend time before boarding exploring Denali National Park some more; just make sure you can get back in time.
Day Five
Fairbanks is a vibrant Alaskan city with plenty to do and see, such as the famous Fairbanks Ice Museum or the unique Pioneer Park. If you’d like to relax, head over to the Chena Hot Springs and be prepared to want to stay for the entire day once you hit the water. Then it’s time to head back to Anchorage and go home with your memories.
