Players Golf Club
The Players golf club is just outside of Bristol and actually has two full eighteen hole golf courses and a nine hole par three course as well. You can even find the course hosting events for the European tours such as the qualifying school events and even 7 West Region PGA championships. This golf course is a top tier course in the area that will have you feeling like a Tour player yourself. It is designed to test you mentally with some deceiving tricky holes, but that will also leave you with a thrill after you conquer each hole. We highly suggest that this is the first golf course on your list if you are making a trip to Bristol.
Long Ashton Golf Club
Next up on the list we have the Long Ashton golf club which is well known for its small, but fast greens. This makes it tricky for everyone involved, but it is home to European Tour Pro Chris Wood, which goes to show how excellent the course is. The club boasts that no two holes are the same and each one will not only present you with a different look, but different challenges as well. The course itself is one of the greenest in all of the land, but they are proud of their greens. These greens have been newly renovated to meet the standards of professional golf leagues around the world, which is also why they are known to be fast.
Bristol and Clifton Golf Club
This course is one of the flattest that you will find in the Bristol area, but that does not make it any easier than its counterparts on this list. It is also one of the shortest golf courses, being a 6,413 yard par 70 course. If you don’t believe us when we say it is one of the best in the region, England itself thinks so as many national golf events have been hosted there. For example the English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship was hosted there back in 2016. This golf course like many others on the list has also been improved recently with the greens being the main focus yet again.
Kendleshire Golf Club
The Kendleshire is one of the most beautiful golf clubs in the area and one of the best with regards to the full course experience (clubhouse, etc.). It also has some of the most unique fairways in the area as almost none of them are perfectly straight and they are all pretty skinny. What also makes the course special is its unique island green out on the water and the fact that there are three different nine hole courses.
Weston Super Mare Golf Club
The Weston Super Mare Golf Club is right on the coast and close to the seafront, but also only a few hundred yards away from the town at the same time. This makes for a quick and easy day trip for those looking to get away from the town for a short time and enjoy some golf. The course itself is one of the few links courses in the area and has some tough fairways and greens. This course is really about accurate shots and being able to hit your aimpoints time and time again. Go checkout this course for some rare links golf, and some fun time away from the town with epic views.
Chipping Sodbury Golf Club
Chipping Sodbury is the opposite of Weston Super Mare, as you can rarely escape the trees on this golf course. Trees line nearly every fairway and green, making for a small room for error. The course is also the opposite of a walking distance away from the town, as it is a 12 mile drive away from Bristol. However this gives you a great time to truly get away from the town, forget where you are for a few hours and play a fun round of golf.
Filton Golf Club
Filton golf club is one of the oldest courses in the area as it was established in 1909. Unfortunately it is also a private members club which makes it difficult to play at. Despite the requirement of being a member the club has one of the best practice facilities in all of England. The member fees are not extremely expensive and then give options for a weekly membership if you are going to be in the area for only a short amount of time.
Knowle Golf Club
Next, is the Knowle golf club. This course is by far the most underrated course in the area, because it is just as beautiful as the rest of the courses but is not as popular for whatever reason. Now the quality might be just under par compared to its counterparts, but it still cannot be beat. Keep in mind that only members and their guests are allowed on the weekend, so if you are just visiting you must play during the week.
The Ocean Course
This beautiful golf course sits right on the ocean hence its name. Many people love to play here because of the location but because it is a challenging course. The wind is so drastic at this course that it can cause up to an 8 club change from one hole to the next. Who doesn’t love a good challenge especially when playing the game they love? There are also many challenging obstacles on the course which people love such as bunkers and especially the ocean being right next to the course.
Riviera Country Club
An interesting fact about this golf course is that it only took 18 months to be created and completed. They have had quite a few PGA championships held here as well as a US Open, US Senior Open, and a US Amateur. Johnny Miller, winner of the 1981 Los Angeles Open, described Riviera as, “Definitely one of the greatest, no-nonsense golf courses in the world! It requires a player to play every club in his bag and every shot in his game.”
